The quarters of Engine 60, Ladder 17, and the 14th Battalion of the FDNY are located at 341 East 143 Street in the Mott Haven section of the South Bronx. Originally, only Hook & Ladder Company 17 and Ladder 17-2 were quartered in the house which was built in 1906 and officially opened in 1907. Ladder 17-2 was disbanded in 1915, and re-organized from 1972-1974 in the "Bronx Burning" years. The house also shared quarters for a time with Rescue 3, which later moved to the quarters of E-42. Engine Company 60 was originally quartered in their own firehouse at 606 East 137 Street. In the 1940's, with their own firehouse deteriorating with age, E-60 moved into it's present quarters with Ladder 17. Ladder 17 celebrated 125 years of dedicated service to the citizens of New York City on January 1, 1999. Engine 60 celebrated their 100th anniversary on January 1, 1995. |
